Kennel Safety Law to Take Effect on January 1st, 2020

USAFP applauds Illinois legislators and Governor Pritzker for taking actions to protect our pets and keep them safe when they are away from home.

A major win happened in the fire protection community regarding kennel safety. Illinois became the first state in the country to pass a law requiring kennel operators to provide fire safety for animals.

Kennel operators can choose to either install fire sprinklers or alarms or provide their boarding kennels with staff. Both plans provide safer living situations for our pets.

Previously alarms or sprinklers were not required in areas where animals were sheltered. Starting January 1st, 2020, any kennel operator who fails to follow the new guidelines will be fined. Click here to read more about the bill from the Chicago Tribune.

Illinois pet owners now have the peace of mind knowing that even when they are away, their pets are protected. Visit our Tenant Interior Page to learn more about fire protection and the services that we provide.
